A PTA membership is a back-to-school essential. Just like crayons and paper, your donation is a tool to help your child learn by funding exciting and educational programs for our Oak Park-Carpenter students and their families.
It’s an easy way to have a direct impact on your child’s education.
“There are many great programs and events that PTA donations help support,” said Lindsay Bucl, Oak Park-Carpenter PTA Vice President of Membership. “Our teachers set up field trips all over the area and PTA funds help support those fun learning adventures.”
Last year, just a few of the amazing field trips the PTA funded gave students the chance to learn about history at Mahaffie Stagecoach Stop and Farm, learn about farm animals at Deanna Rose Farmstead, and learn about science at Shawnee Mission South High School.
PTA memberships also bring OP-C families together. When you join the PTA, you get a copy of our paper directory and access to our online directory. “It’s a great way to connect with parents, teachers, and community members who support and help our children every day,” Bucl said.
In addition to funding field trips and providing connections to the Oak Park-Carpenter community, your PTA donation supports programs like:
Ice Cream Social
Pancakes and BINGO night
Preschool Fun Time
6th Grade Farewell
Teacher Appreciation Week
PTA membership is only $7 for an individual or $12 for a family. You can make an additional donation in an amount of your choosing. Donations go back to the school to fund extras for students and staff that the district cannot provide. Every member makes a difference.
To join the PTA, click here and follow the instructions to pay online or via check. Thank you for your support!
Whether you’re rooting for the Royals, the Chiefs, or Sporting KC, wearing your team’s logo and colors builds a sense of enthusiasm and comradery, even with complete strangers. Oak Park-Carpenter Spirit Wear builds that same sense of enthusiasm and comradery within our school community. When you purchase and wear your Spirit Wear, you show everyone that you’re part of the OP-C family.
Each year we change up our Spirit Wear offerings so you and your students have a variety of ways to display your school pride. For families who don’t have room in their budget for new Spirit Wear, you can shop privately with Ms. Gill from our Hand-Me-Up Spirit Wear Shop, which has a wide variety of gently used Spirit Wear.
You can purchase Spirit Wear to wear throughout the year, or as gifts for birthdays, holidays, or graduation. Spirit Wear is also great for field trips to help identify your student as belonging with the Oak Park-Carpenter group. However you decide to use your Spirit Wear, be sure and purchase now because there may not be another chance this year!
Please use this link to go to our Spirit Wear order form. Print the form and turn it in along with payment to the school office. Orders must be submitted by September 15 and should be delivered the first week of October.
Thank you very much for your support of our amazing school family!
Our new kindergarteners joined the Oak Park-Carpenter family on Tuesday. These little ones have started their journey toward independence. This first year of school is so magical. They will learn to read, write, and do math, but also to be kind, have courage, solve problems, and make friends. They are set on the path to find their identity, and as parents we get to watch them grow and learn and be proud of them for every accomplishment. Like Dr. Seuss wrote, “You’re off to Great Places! Today is your day! Your mountain is waiting, so…get on your way!” We wish every kindergartener an amazing start to an exciting school year!
A kindergarten teacher rounds up 24 bubbly, excited children for the Winter Party. There are snacks to eat, songs to sing, games to play and stories to tell. But she can’t do it alone. She needs your help!
Whether it’s a classroom party, field trip, or the school carnival, we rely on our amazing volunteers to make all of our wonderful programs possible.
At Back to School Night on Thursday, Aug. 17, you will have the chance to sign up for one of a multitude of volunteer opportunities with varying levels of commitment. Whether you only have an hour to spare or can come several times a week, there is always a way to contribute. Keep an eye out for the sign up sheets located in your child’s classroom.
Some of our most immediate needs include:
Halloween Party Help
Winter Party Help
Valentine’s Party Help
If you can’t make it to Back to School Night, please contact Donna McCool to sign up at any time.
The countdown has ended and the 2017-2018 school year has begun! This morning, we waved goodbye to summer and to our children as we dropped off our first through sixth graders.
Parents snapped photos of their kids in front of the building, saving memories to compare to last year. Excited children greeted their friends and teachers. There were some tears, but there were even more smiles as people gave big hello and goodbye hugs filled the hallways.
While the kids all love summer, the number of smiles that filled the halls this morning demonstrated how much we love our school. As author Wendy Wunder wrote, “The magic thing about home is that it feels good to leave, and it feels even better to come back.” That’s true about OP-C as well. It feels good to leave at the end of the year, and it feels even better to come back.
We wish everyone a fantastic school year; from the new kindergartners all the way up to the big-kid-on-campus sixth graders!
