Calling Volunteers

For information about the following volunteer opportunities, please contact Micaela Finlayson, Vice President of Volunteers.

Activity Team – Organize restaurant nights and community events.
Art Helper – Assist art teacher displaying student artwork throughout school.
Auction – Solicit donations for school wide auction in conjunction with April Carnival.
Beautification – Keep school grounds looking beautiful by mulching, planting flowers, pruning trees, etc.
Book Fair – Assist with twice yearly Scholastic book fairs. Help set up, take down, run cash register, re-stock during event.
Carnival – Help to plan and organize this spring event.
Chat-N-Chew – Reading program for 3rd-6th graders. Read select books and lead a group discussion with kids during lunch period. January – May event.
Clothing Center – Volunteer at SMAC Clothing Center once or twice yearly sorting clothes and organizing donations for district clothing center.
Clothing Drive – Volunteers organize OP-C clothing donations. One week in October and one week in March. Volunteers assist with getting donations to SMAC Clothing Center.
Compassion in Action – Volunteers provide assistance to OP-C families in need. Provide meals, run errands, and assist with needs, etc.
Cultural Arts – Volunteers arrange drama, musical, and cultural programs for entire student body four times a year.
Field Day – Volunteers assist PE teacher with planning and carrying out field day events.
Legislative – Keep updated with legislative changes and how it impacts our school.
Library Helpers – Assist librarian with re-shelving books and general library upkeep. Volunteers can come and go during school hours without a set schedule.
Nutrition Week – Volunteers educate kids regarding nutrition, introduce new foods, and provide samples during lunch period. One week per school year.
Pre-School Fun Time – Volunteers organize activities for preschoolers to prepare them for entering Kindergarten.  Four events January through April.
Refund Drive – Help organize refund opportunities for OP-C, for instance Box Tops for Education. Can be done completely from home!
Room Parents – Oversee three classroom parties each year (Halloween, Holiday and Valentine’s Day). Collect classroom basket for Carnival auction.
School Directory – Volunteers needed mid-August through late September only. Assist gathering student information and editing for directory. Can be done completely from home!
School Pictures – Volunteer three times a year publicizing picture dates, organizing kids in classroom order for quick and efficient picture taking.
Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) night – Volunteers coordinate a fun hands-on evening in March.
Senior Breakfast – High school seniors return to OP-C where it all began and have breakfast with the teachers. Once per year in late May.
Service/Holiday Project – Plan, arrange, and conduct service projects/community activities with students. Examples include Toys for Tots collection, Rake Up the Fall, holiday cards for nursing home residents.
Skate Parties – Work with Skate City and after care program for monthly skate parties.
Spirit Wear – Volunteers assist with online ordering and distribution of clothing sales.
Staff Appreciation – Volunteers organize events to show appreciation for teachers and staff.
Trash Bag Sales – Volunteers publicize fall trash bag sales.
Welcoming – Volunteers work year round welcoming new families to OP-C with a small welcoming packet. We ask that no new families sign up to work on this committee.
Yearbook – Assist with design, layout, editing, and picture taking to assemble year end memory book.
